Over 1,000 Runners Turn Nottingham Purple

The Smooth Sunrise City 5k family came to Nottingham this morning, with over one-thousand participants tackling the non-competitive 5k course at 5:30am.

Starting from Smithy Row, runners of all ages donned their purple t-shirts to explore some of the city’s most iconic areas before heading off to work.

Event Director Nik Emmonds was delighted with how the event went, he said: “This morning has been fantastic, to see over one-thousand people all in their purple gear was something special.

“This is the first event of three and for it to sell out is really humbling, we would like to thank everyone for their support, including Smooth Radio who have been so helpful pushing the events.

“I’d also like to make a special mention for our participants, we are hoping to create a family of runners and their attitude and enthusiasm was perfect – I can’t wait to see some familiar faces at Leicester and Derby.”

Runners were given technical t-shirts and medals as part of their entry fee, as well as fruit supplied by Kerry’s Fresh.

Nik added: “The partners involved in the event have strong Nottingham links and bases, from Smooth East Midlands as our title partners, through big institutions like Ikano Bank to independent start ups like 200 Degrees, Kerry’s Fresh and Virtual Runner.

“The support of Nottingham City Council has been a big factor in the event and shows again that the city is committed to hosting unique, world class events that the residents can enjoy.”

Phil Hudson, Head of Commercial at Smooth East Midlands said: “Smooth Radio East Midlands is delighted to be partnering with the Sunrise City 5K to raise money for Smooth’s charity Global’s Make Some Noise.

“It’s an amazing event and we’re very pleased to give our listeners the opportunity to see Nottingham in a different light, running through the city as it wakes up!”
