To our dear Sunrise family,
It is with a great deal of regret that we are writing to inform you that we will not be able to deliver the physical Sunrise City 5K events this year as an ongoing result of the coronavirus pandemic.
I’m sure we were in the same boat as many of you in hoping that this would be a distant memory by now. While things are looking a lot more positive in the battle against the virus, unfortunately we are not quite there to the degree where it will be possible to hold mass participation events this summer.
The councils have, understandably, been unable to give permission for the events. Some of them are scheduled while the national restrictions are in place and those later in the series are so close to the end of restrictions in the government’s roadmap, that it would be too much of a risk to confirm we can go ahead when even a small delay would have an impact.
Thankfully, outdoor exercise and recreation in larger groups should be possible very soon and is already an option in pairs.
So, once again, we have teamed up with our amazing friends at Virtual Runner to make the best of things in the true Sunrise spirit.
All entries will be automatically converted to virtual entries with Virtual Runner. You will be required to run a 5K in July and send your proof to Virtual Runner. In return you will then be sent a 2021 Sunrise City medal and a fantastic snood through the post.
Please read the following information carefully:
Please do ensure that you follow all of the steps above as your entry will not be confirmed, or available for the medal and snood, unless they are. And please do note the timeframes sent to you by Virtual Runner to complete the challenge and submit your evidence. It isn’t open ended.
As for the future, we will be working with our partners at the various councils to see when we’re able to look at hosting these physically again and we will be in touch if and when that information is available.
Until then, stay safe and enjoy your virtual run.
The Sunrise City 5K Team
